Rum is a liquor made by fermenting and then distilling sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice. The distillate, a clear liquid, is often aged in oak barrels. Rum is produced in nearly every major sugar-producing region of the world, including in Asia for e.g. Philippines, where Tanduay is the largest producer of rum globally.
1731 Fine & Rare represents a new perspective on rum, bringing great taste from the past centuries directly to the glass. The Regional Blends and Single Origin Rums product lines include rums from Central America to the tip of the South American continent. Each bottling offers a distinctive character that speaks volumes about its origin. The bottling is always in natural color, not chill-filtered and without sugar. The company 1731 Fine & Rare originates from the Netherlands. The name of the independent bottler is based on the year in which the British Royal Navy began offering its sailors half a pint of rum as part of their wages.
Navy Island is a small tropical island off the coast of Port Antonio, Jamaica. In the 18th century, the island was used by the British Royal Navy (hence the name). According to local legend, Navy Island changed hands in the 1940s during a rum-fuelled poker game involving a Hollywood celebrity. Even today, the island remains one of the most beautiful spots in the Caribbean. The rich and vibrant history of Navy Island inspired this traditional Jamaican rum brand.
