TUN 1509 is one of Balvenie's traditional oak vatting/marrying vessels with a capacity of 8000L. The size of these TUNs allowed Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE (with over 50 years of experience) and who possesses an unequalled knowledge of The Balvenie to hand-select a variety of vintage casks and marry them in Tun 1509, housed in Warehouse 24. Three months of vatting then results in this exceptionally complex and rare single malt Scotch whisky, rated 5 Stars (90 points) by Whiskyfun.
The success of The Balvenie's TUN 1401 series meant that a bigger vat was needed, and in came TUN 1509. One batch is bottled each year and The Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 1 was launched in 2014.The second batch of TUN1509 released in 2015 comprises 23 American oak barrels and nine European oak sherry butts. This is a limited release of 8,500 bottles.
